For Decorated Cookies

How much time does it take to get my order?

These cookies are all made to order. Generally, Kay needs about two weeks before you must confirm your order.

Does your icing melt on your decorated cookies?

No. Kay uses royal icing because it dries fast and ships well–even from Chicago to Tucson!

Why are the decorated cookies so expensive?

Each cookie is individually hand-iced, with an artistic touch. Each individually wrapped cookie is both tasty and a beautiful work of art!

Do you offer cookies on a stick?

No. Also, we do not send cookie bouquets.

Do you make cookie platters?

If you want cookies for an event or celebration in the Chicago area, platters or trays can be delivered. The cost depends on whether or not each cookie is individually wrapped.

What is the minimum order for a decorated cookie order?

Twenty-four cookies is the minimum order for a customized order.  Gift box orders typically contain twelve decorated cookies. Quantity discounts are also available for orders over 50.

How long will the decorated cookies last?

Usually un-eaten cookies (which are un-usual) can be frozen for up to two months if put in an airtight container. They last even longer if vacuum sealing is used. Cookies by Kay bags are not airtight, so she advises putting them in a zipper lock type bag or plastic container before putting them in the freezer.

For Gourmet Cookies

Do you cater for events?

Yes, indeed, in Chicago and suburbs only. Please contact Kay directly by calling 312-622-0113 or e-mail at cookies@cookiesbykay.com .

I am having a party. How many Gourmet cookies should I buy for my guests?

A general rule of thumb is two cookies per person. If other desserts are being served, you will probably need less. Remember, these cookies are oversized.

How will Gourmet cookie varieties arrive?

This depends on where and when they are needed. If you are in Chicago and you plan to pick them up, Kay uses white cake boxes to deliver the dozens of cookies you order. Each dozen can be put in cellophane bags depending on how quickly you wish to serve or eat them. If shipped, Gourmet cookies are packaged in cellophane bags with four cookies in each. These bags are put in gift boxes (16 cookies in each).  See gift box page on this website.  Remember in Chicago, cookie platters are available, see Catering. Please don't hesitate to contact Kay at 312-622-0113 to discuss your requirements.

Is there a location where we can pick up the cookies I’ve ordered?

If you want your cookies in the Chicago area, you can arrange to pick up your cookies at my Chicago home just west of the loop. These cookies are not available in a retail store at this time.

How long will the Gourmet Cookies last?

These cookies are baked to order so they will stay tasty for several days. Any uneaten cookies should be put in an airtight container. If you want to freeze them, put the airtight container in the freezer and they will stay tasty for two months. You can put the frozen cookies inside a paper towel and put in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to bring back the fresh baked taste.

Do you charge sales tax?

Yes, if your cookies are shipped or picked up in Illinois, a 2% sales tax is charged.

How can we pay for our orders?

Checks can be written to Cookies by Kay, or during peak seasons Kay accepts Mastercard and Visa.

Can I be added to your mailing list?

Yes. Please email cookies@cookiesbykay.com and include your name, address, phone, and email address.
